8:30 AM Registration John S Chaney Restoration Center
9:15 AM Training for Drivers & Navigators (Only)
10:31 AM Course Instructions Handed Out to Car #1
(Course Instructions will be handed out in 1 minute intervals)
11:01 AM Car #1 Departs (Remainder of cars leave in 1 minute intervals)
11:40 AM All Cars on course
3:00 PM Cars should start arriving at Culver’s on Bell RD East of Hwy# 303.
4:15 PM Awards ***All times tenative.***
If you want to come to the finish line at Culver’s, we will be outside in the parking lot. Please bring your own lawn chair. After all cars have departed the JSC Restoration Center we will share some possible viewing locations. DO NOT FOLLOW THE CARS ON THE COURSE!
It is official! The 2018 Cactus Derby will be held on Saturday, March 24th, 2018. We have had a good response from many of you asking us to put on the event this year. So, mark you calendars and sign up early to be a part of this year’s event. We will limit the field to the first 60 teams signing up.
If this is your first experience with a Cactus Derby, we welcome your participation and questions! The Cactus Derby is a “car rally.” We follow basically the same format as the Great Race. (The Great Race is 9 days long). This will be a one day rally. It will take about 6 hours to complete the approximately 100 mile long course. Each car in competition will consist of a Driver and a Navigator. The Driver must drive the course at precise speeds, while the Navigator must follow the Course Instructions and navigate the team around the course. It does take teamwork! Training sessions will be provided for those who are serious about the competition!
We are planning on having at least three divisions. Once we get the participants signed up, we will determine all the class divisions. Divisions being considered are Rookie, Sports Cars, Classics, and Modern cars.
Sign up officially starts on January 2nd, 2018. I am attaching a registration form with this note. Please fill it out and send in your check, or drop it off at the John S. Chaney Restoration Center ASAP! There is a discount for those who sign up early! Those who sign up prior to February 1st pay $25. If you sign up by March 1st the fee is $30 per team, and if you wait until after March 1st the cost will be $40 (if all spaces are not filled). School teams can sign up prior to March 1st for $15 per team. Sign Up forms will also be available at the JSC Center. Would you like to volunteer to help put the event on? Drop me and email please!
This event is open to ALL who want to participate in ANY CAR! So, think about it, and find a partner to enjoy this fun event! Who knows…your next event just might be the Great Race in 2019???
